brambor Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Here are some pics from the paddle. It was a great day, I wish all winter paddles were this pleasant. Now if I can get in shape and hone my technique to be able to keep up with Leon, Gene, Tom and Bob. I usually just paddle with my kids so this trip was a reminder for me to get my butt in gear ! Thanks for a great day on the water. capricorn 5 P.S. I overloaded on the sock layers a little bit but otherwise was very comfortable during the paddle. Also my new drysuit from Peak UK is working great and I dig the crotch zipper! (figuratively speaking) Quote

(figuratively speaking) It was a very pleasant paddle with some beautiful distance views as the sun peeked through the clouds. Tom, that ocean pool by the Magnolia mansion is really interesting. Would like to jump in during a summer trip. My first cold weather trip on the ocean with the semi-dry, and it worked great. Homemade pogues also did the trick, leaving enough air through the side for evaporation but also keeping my hands warm. As colder weather sets in, I'll need gloves with them. Thanks for the pictures, Rene, and to Gene for calling the trip. Bob Quote
Gcosloy Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Thanks for the pictures René. It was a very nice day. I think sometimes cold water paddling is more about how comfortable we are in our choice of clothes than the actual conditions on the sea itself. The water was below 50 and the air perhaps 45. Not much sun and medium winds which died down in the afternoon. The non-conifer trees were bare and there were maybe two power boats seen all day. We paddled NW to Gloucester harbor against the early afternoon wind and paddled back on a gentle following sea. No real thrills or spills, a few tentative attempts to play the rocks by a few, (where was Kevin when we needed him?) but on the whole a delightful day with good companions appreciating the changing land and seascape that Autumn brings to Salem Sound. To be technical, the Atlantic Ocean east of Manchester Harbor is no longer Salem Sound. Quote
Phil Allen Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Glad you all had a good day. I was going to join you, but had more than one when celebrating a friends 50th the night before. Phil Quote
