At first look, you are a brave lad. On second look, it might well be a great day as the storm will be past and things calming down with luck. Cape Small might be something to behold. What is CAM?

Sounds like a good adventure, but this old timid woodland creature not up for 18NM. Night will come fast on Sunday too as in 4:27PM, but tide good.

Will let you know Sat night by cell if coming.

Here is waht the trip MIGHT look like. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1427560

I've done it a few times before, and it's a scenic paddle. Obviously, it is really exposed to westerly winds, but if it looks like it will be windy, we can start at the same spot but head west, or even do a circumnavigation of Great Island if we're up to it. Haven't checked the mileage of that, but as I recall from doing it a few years ago, it too might be around 18 miles. Meanwhile, weather.com isn't even mentioning winds in its forecast for the area for Sunday.

I HAD forgotten about the change of clocks, so if it's going to be dark by 5:00, we'll just have to monitor our progress and adapt as needed. No rule that reaching Small Point is a must, though we'd love to do it if possible.

Anyway, Peter B. and I will be there. Maybe some of you, too?

My house is not far from the launch site (10 miles or so), so it would be a good spot for stopping over to change, eat, warm up by the fireplace, etc. And Cook's Lobster House is right by the house, too, just in case.

Whew, I thought he might be trying to charge a Common Area Maintenance fee.

Might become a model for something and it might be an adventure and everyone will be in it together so I guess it will be a Common Adventure Model. <G>

Somehow it sounds like a new rallying cry, "CAM all the way!"

Interesting forecast now...We shall see.

Did you go out ?

That would hve been truly gutsy, or plain dumb. The plan is to go out on Sunday.

Weather.com for the Orr's Island area still looks like a decent day for paddling, as long as you don't mind a bit of a chill and some wind. Their hour-by-hour forecoast is below.

If we do as planned, we'll be launching at about 1/2 tide, and heading outbound with the ebbing tide with sunny skies, and a decent wind of about 16 mph on our right side, maybe a bit behind us; by the time we turn aroound for the return trip, the tide will have reversed and the wind will still be from about the same direction but down to closer to 10 mph. Along the planned route, there are only a few places where we'll be able to duck into the lee for a short time. Of course, once at the launch site, we can assess conditions and change the route altogether for a pretty well-protected route if we prefer.
