gyork Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 18! brave souls (Scott, Roger, Leslie, Al, Kate, Deb, David(x2), Gail, Ed, Russ, Gary, Don, Mary, Gil, Kevin, Bill, and Judy) launched from Pavillion Beach at 10 am, meandered through Fox Creek, and fought our way through the power boats at Crane's S tip for a leisurely lunch. Some engaged in postprandial surfing on the the NE side of the beach, followed by visits to the Sand Sculpture Contest, then back to the launch site, with a long slog back to the cars. Thanks to Al for posting, and to all the others who joined us for a pleasurable trip. Had some trouble posting to the NSPN gallery so: http://community.webshots.com/album/560436494CgkyPN Gary Quote

For those who wanted to enjoy the surf, they could do so while those who didn't could easily avoid it. For the surfers, there were 1.5-2 footers in the mouth of the Essex at the new sand bar and up to 2.5 footers on the bars further north. Some great rides and even the unintended endo There was something for everyone on this trip with the predicted SMA conditions never materializing. As Gary mentioned, 18 people! Quote
brwells Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Wow, looks like a great paddle... Wish I wasn't out of town. Next year we need a sand sculpture of a kayak. Brian Quote
kate Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 David, We can see where you did the most surfing - that intense green area on the trip route where you were back-and-forth back-and-forth... and upside-down... This was so much fun, and the conditions were optimal. Perfect place to be on a very hot and humid day! And great company. Too bad the trip was canceled... Kate Quote

Yep, and you can see the shape of the shoals that make the surf happen. That spot has a double shoal. This was so much fun, and the conditions were optimal. Perfect place to be on a very hot and humid day! And great company. Too bad the trip was canceled... Kate Yeah... let's cancel more trips! --David. Quote
EEL Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Yeah... let's cancel more trips! Well, you have to first have trips to cancel, so more posted trips are still needed to work the magic formula. We seldom get down to paddle in NSPN's back yard and it was fun seeing people we had not seen for awhile, meeting others for the first time, putting faces to names on the message board. getting to examine a Beale GP (loved the loom), but disappointed to hear the male side of wedding party will not be wearing sprayskirts. Understand how the potential banter between the OC and keyhole wearers could disrupt the solemnity of the event so perhaps for the best. Obviously there are no small number of people ready and eager to go paddling as an NSPN group when you get 18 for a trip cancelled due to potential for bad conditions. The swell that hide on Sat. were found Sun. on Casco Bay and I suspect on the other side of Cape Ann as well. Quote

Kate The 2-2.5 footers that our pod played in were a bit further out. You can just make out the break on the map. Quote

Ed, Five us went out past the dogbar and over to Brace Cove on Sunday and found some fun conditions, so I think you're right about the forecast swell for Sat. revealing itself the next day (albeit a bit less than predicted.)
