EEL
Like all days on the ocean, it had good and not so good moments, but it was better to be there than on land. Six paddlers launched a little after noon and returned around 3:30 PM. From Pierce Island, out Little Harbor, and down the coast aways. Conditions better than the marine forecast suggested with small craft advisory and all. One stop at the end of New Castle to look at old fortifications, munchies and whatever. The good was being in the boat and feeling swells again, seeing some neat clouds and shower lines, smelling the wind, hearing the sound of breaking waves, being with good friends, meeting new people, learning how important using the shore's wind shadow can be, being reminded that 15Kts with gusts to 20Kts is a strong wind thank you very much, discovering just how nice a GP is in the wind, getting back in snyc with reading water and timing where it is and isn't, and not least Gerry's generosity. The not so good was failing to take the time to get get acquainted with new faces, being driven to paddle more than open to enjoy, learning that once out of the wind shadow things change fast and not for the better, paddling into the wind can be a drag, and adequately preparing a boat for the outfitting and repair clinic. Overall, a nice day on the water a hint of the warm days ahead and the promise of a nice day doing the same down to Rye harbor soon when Seal Rock has seals.
