Sun and Ice in Portmouth

A seemed a bit bizarre to drag boats across a foot of snow getting them to the car this morning, but it was worth it. This Sunday in Portsmouth was a glorious, sunny day for the most part today as Gail and I paddled out past Ram Island and up the coast to wander about rocks and watch the modest swells break on ledges. A foray into Chuancey Creek was thwarted by ice so no loop around Gerrish. A local out for his Sunday paddle indcated it gets tricky there as the ice can shift leaving you with no way out.

Enough sun to make it cozy and comfy with temps around 35. Persistent west wind around 10-15K made it a slog back with waves just big enough to make you think about stroke timing. All in all a nice day on the ocean free of people and boats, but a few loons and Canadian geese were more than adequate replacements.

It may almost be winter, but there is much to enjoy on the water still.
