Posted June 11, 200718 yr Hi, I'm a new member who is still trying out boats (yeah, analysis paralysis). Would anyone have an extra boat for tomorrows session on the upper lake ? I took the guided tour out to Thacher island yesterday and am totally hooked. many thanks, Barry.
June 11, 200718 yr Barry, It might help to provide a brief physical description since not every boat will fit every person. Don't need specifics, but something like average weight, average height would suffice.
June 11, 200718 yr Barry, I can bring an Avocet tomorrow, but the fit will be questionable. There is no seat and the foot pegs can be adjusted so it might fit, but it won't be optimal. It's already on the car so no trouble there. By the way, you have a pfd and spray skirt, correct?
June 11, 200718 yr I don't think he'll fit in an Avocet. I can bring my Aquanaut, which should be OK with a thin bulkhead pad, or none at all -- I have several sizes. --David.
June 11, 200718 yr Author Thanks Kevin/David, I have a pfd, but no spray skirt. I can pick one up by tomorrow evening. (REI or EMS close by); any suggestions on brand/sizing ? Barry.
June 11, 200718 yr I wouldn't recommend buying a neoprene spray skirt (which most of us prefer) until you find the right boat for you, because you'll be buying it to fit the size of your cockpit. I have 3 spare nylon ones you could choose from if you like...
June 11, 200718 yr Are you coming, Heidi? If so, great. In any case, I'll bring a couple of nylon skirts, pumps, paddle floats and even a spare pfd or two. --David.
June 12, 200718 yr NSPN is having an Nigel Dennis Kayak Demo day this Saturday in Ipswich. Check out the calendar for more info. Cheers, Paula NDK Exp-LV VCP-Anas Acuta
June 13, 200718 yr Author Many thanks to David for both the loan of his kayak and the great instruction last night. I really enjoyed the session and learned a lot of new things. It was also great to see some advanced techniques demonstrated; particularly the different forms of rescue. Barry.
