Bill Gwynn
NOAA has new on-line chart viewer. You can view charts in your browser, no need to download any software. http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/viewer/
gyork
Bill, thanks for this great link. Still figuring if there is a way to print decent chart sections.Gary
djlewis
>Bill, thanks for this great link. Still figuring if there >is a way to print decent chart sections. I was wondering that myself. You can always do a screencap -- SnagIt is neat, or and paste into something, say, Word. But the darn thing is so small. You'd probably want to tape a bunch of panels together, but getting them lined up would be a p-i-t-a, and you'd need a lot of them to make a decent size chart. I don't think this will be very practical. In general, printing is the weak point of the web, and I suspect it's not even in NOAA's sights, given that they distribute paper charts.--David
birdseye
Have you all tried Maptechs free boating charts and the Chart Navigator demo software. So far it's the best thing I've seen out there for free. http://www.freeboatingcharts.com/ Printing is still a bit of a problem as far as area size goes (unless you have a wide body printer) but you can plot trips, get distances, etc. Plus you can download any current U.S. chart available. If NOAA has something over this please let me know where to find it.
