Ice-out on this large NH lake happened a few days ago, but the picture below was taken a few days before that. De-icers (and this dock had one) around docks are designed to keep the water from freezing around dock cribs, to prevent ice damage from lateral expansion during the coldest months. The pic demonstrates the kinetic energy of a wind-driven mass of ice, only a few inches thick, over a >2mile fetch.
