CANCELLED. Save the date for Easter Bunny Paddle and Plunge

Save the date for the return of the annual Easter Bunny Paddle and Plunge! Plunging, bunny ears, and chocolate encouraged but optional. Exact location and start time TBD based on forecast but somewhere on the North Shore, most likely West Beach. Will require cold weather gear and appropriate sea kayak. Hope to see you there!

Any possibility of making it Sat EBP for folks who may be tied up with family or other obligations on Easter itself, or at least a backup if weather better?

What is EBT?

My guess is EBP, as distinct from EBT, references the Easter Bunny Plunge or Paddle depending on one's proclivity. )

Final details for paddle to be shared on March 31 as I will be off-grid the prior week!

Thoroughly confused as this thread says April 5 yet what I clicked to get to the thread says Apr 4.

Understandable… the event is on Easter Day, which is Sunday April 5. The other date was most likely a typo!

JanetL

Hi - Sorry about the date confusion, but I can't figure out where it says April 4! The event is indeed on April 5 (though I'm watching the weather to see if it needs to be changed)

I realize we're still several days out but conditions look a lot better on Saturday.

I know - unfortunately I am not available on Saturday. Is anyone else interested in coordinating if it needs to be moved? (I was going to decide tomorrow)

I haven't paddled with NSPN in a few years. Took a year off from paddling two years ago and started getting back into in last year. Not up for leading anything but I'd consider attending a paddle on Saturday if the distance is within my ability.

Hi Friends!

I'm on board for this Saturday AND any day that Janet can lead a paddle too!

That said, looking at Windy from Floating Trails:

waves and swells on Saturday are 1-2' from E, (Could be a bit of fun).

wind from N,NE sustained 10-12 w 20-25 gusts. (Too brisk?)

I'm not "qualified" to lead but happy to help. Looks like we have a nice big group!

If we do go Saturday I'd propose to launch from West Beach at 10 AM.

Low tide is 7:58 AM, High at 1:58 PM

Since the Miserys are along the way I'd propose we plan ahead to start as one group then maybe divide into two- groups: #1- those who wish to stop and explore the islands by foot on the way back to the launch, and #2- those who want to go directly back to the launch or explore further on the water.

We can be open to ideas and group consensus at the launch talk. (forget the name for that).

No one paddles alone. Triple buddy system in these cold water conditions.

From launch we could paddle north exploring the shoreline for about 4 miles, I forget where we often stop for a snack/lunch- then paddle back towards the launch heading east of the MIserys- ride thru the strait. Groups do their plan.

Just my 2 cents worth.

So looking forward to paddling with you all again!

Sounds to me like Barb is ready to lead! I think we should have a conversation about what it means to "lead" or "organize" a club trip. I think a lot of people have the organizational skills but shy away from posting trips because they're unsure of their paddling chops.

Wind gusts look fierce off West Beach on Saturday.

Hi Easter Bunny Plunge fans,

Saturday looks like a nice day, but too windy to go out on the ocean. I was thinking of moving the event to Odiorne, staying in the harbor, but the timing on Saturday will be hard for me, and wind gusts are forecast for upwards of 25 mph. I hate cancelling this event entirely, so here is an alternate plan:

Saturday, April 4. Meet at 9:30 am at the Concord River boat ramp, off Route 225 in Bedford, MA. It's 45 minutes from West Beach, so fairly accessible to most people. Plan on a launch time of 10:00 am sharp. It's 8 miles round trip to Old North Bridge, where we can pull out and take a break. We should be back at the launch by about 2:30 at the latest.

***PLEASE REPLY IF YOU WANT TO JOIN!!

Boat ramp address is 311 Carlisle Rd, Bedford, MA

Water temps in the river are still below 40° F so wet / dry suit and other cold weather gear required. Air temps warmest in the morning, low 50's, then cooling off. Wind NE 10-15 mph.

Trip will go with 3 people or more. Parking is easy.

Bring your bunny ears and chocolate...

This is a TERRIFIC alternative paddle Jody!

I can't commit at this time (w current uncertainties beyond my control) so don't count me as one of the definite 3 but if the stars align I'll def join you and let you know asap.
