  2. I‘m interested in working with a small group of L2 or L3 kayakers on strokes, braces, rescues and navigation etc.

Our goal will be to build your costal kayaking skills and experience. At the same time I’ll gain needed experience teaching kayaking.

Simply put, I’m offering free kayaking lessons.

I’ve done a good deal of teaching and abundant kayaking (BCU 4 Star, ACA L: 3/4 Coastal IDW, SOLO WFA /CPR).

You’ll need only your own appropriate ocean kayak equipment and a commitment to have fun while we both learn.

Drop me an email if interested and we can talk more.

  3. Good trip gents and thanks to all. FYI I did work a deck chart and my navigation was entirely almost spot on. We did in fact round the southwest tip of Peddock's and I marked our next destination point to be the north end of Long Island. I could see it on the bearing of 357 magnetic. I pointed out to Bob our destination - "that is the north end of Long Island". But it wasn't Long Island, it was the northern tip of Rainsford Island. Imaging my disorientation when rounding that point and instead of seeing the expected President Roads channel, I see another mile of open harbor. Humble pie and a reminder that having and using a chart is good, but bearing and distance (time) is navigation and once again I had failed to avoid overconfident visual assumptions.

  4. First - I feel awful about what Gene went through, and I've been really impressed with his courage in sharing the specifics of his ordeal. Second - I think Ross has contributed so much to our community by initiating many of our trips and it sucks that he may now be feeling defensive or attacked. Both these guys have been windowshaded by these events, and neither of them should need to apologize.

Everyone that day got into a skinny boat and chose to paddle in predictably complex waters. Don't we intentionally make ourselves vulnerable in these situations? Isn't it my conflicted relationship with fear and my faultering efforts to manage the risk that specifically attracts me to kayaking.

CAM can be improved and that is the value in the critical discussions going on now. What CAM will not give us is what I'm feeling tonight - a renewed commitment toward empathy and the need to really take of each other on the water. I also feel the need to suspend my impulse to judge or blame? Or put another way... there but for the grace of god and a forgotten chart go I.

  5. At the Lynnway rotary, just after you turn off the rotary toward Nahant, a ball field or park on your right and within about a quarter mile is a quick right into a parking area and a beat up looking MDC building. Take that right and at the end of that drive is a ramp that puts us on the bay side of Nahant. Just Google "MDC ramp Nahant" to find it.

  6. Nahant it is, MDC ramp...Say 10 AM?

SW 10-15 gusting to 20, less in the PM

    Sea 2-3

    Still certainly drysuitish

    Anyone else?

Ross just confirm time and launch location meet your fancy. My cell phone 617 839 6291

I'll be out this evening but will check post late tonight and also in AM
