Paddling Opportunities along the Maine Coastline with guest speaker Dave Mention

Thursday, May 7th

6:30pm - 9:00pm (meet & greet 6:30-7:00, with presentation starting at 7:00pm)

Gould Barn, Topsfield Ma (directions below)

To help kick off NSPN’s new club membership in the Maine Island Trail Association (also referred to as MITA), we’ve invited MITA’s Trail Director Dave Mention to talk about paddling opportunities on the Maine coast. MITA is a non-profit association whose members work for access, stewardship and education about boating among the wild islands of the coast of Maine. Go to http://www.mita.org/ for more information.

Special guest speaker Dave Mention will be sharing his knowledge and passion about the 375 mile waterway from Isles of Shoals to Machias Bay and the 180+ sites in between which make up the Maine Island Trail. Find out about the history of the trail, the natural resources, day trips, overnight camping, low impact recreational techniques and how you can be involved. Dave Mention has been kayaking in Maine since 1986, and is the Trail Director for the Maine Island Trail Association. A Registered Maine Guide, he has paddled many regions along the coast and has a passion for exploration. Dave will share ideas for paddling in all kinds of weather and all along the coast.

With so much beautiful coastline to explore in a kayak, the informative evening should be more than enough to get every paddler excited about the upcoming season! We hope to see you there. Please feel free to tell your friends and fellow paddlers about this great event!

Directions to Gould Barn:
From the south, take Rt. 1 north exit off of Route I-95. Follow that to Rt. 97 west into Topsfield. At the stop sign, the library will be on your left and a small side street immediately before the stop sign is on your right - that is East Common Street . Take a right onto this street and park in the lot on the right that is for the Emerson Center/Congregational Church.

From the north, take I-95 south to the Topsfield Rt. 97 exit. Proceed to Congregational Church on the right and Town Common on the left. Make a left turn onto Route 97 East, for 1/2 a second and then take a SHARP left onto East Common St and park in the lot on the right that is for the Emerson Center/Congregational Church.

There is some parking on the street or at the far left end of the church lot closest to the Barn.
