pm7771
NSPN Bassetts Island Paddle Leaders: Linda Shelburne, Michael Brokenshire, Brian Nystrom Steve, Sean, Dee, Bob, Linda, Diane, Peter Met 9:30 @ Kingman Marine, ESE of Bassett's Island, on Red Brook Harbor, Cataumet (Bourne). After intros & trip plan we launched into calm seas ccw around Bassetts, first past Patuisset, then into Pocasset Harbor north of the island where the first rolls of the day were performed by Sean and Michael, within sight of an occupied osprey nest, on past the well-kept Wings Neck lighthouse (historically goes back to 1849, privatized 1947) and the tip of Wings Neck, to Wings Cove on the north side of Wings Neck facing out to the Cape Cod Canal and Stoney Point dike. Short stretch on shore & return via same route to west facing shoreline of Bassetts Island to tend to "business" among the thorns & poison ivy. Had a leisurely lunch, with stories of the recent NSPN trip leader training course, followed by boat swapping & rolling skills in brightening skies. Then back by Scraggy Neck as the sun began to show with game of "spin the pintail", followed by a crossing in tight formation - arranged by boat color, back across the channel to Kingman Marine. As for the PPPO - as you can see from Steve's pictures - Guiness' & sandwiches - good food, good drink, fun was had by all @ the adjacent Chart Room Restaurant.
