In case anyone is interested in getting out for some "social paddling" during the week up north, Seacoast Kayak organizes paddles in a true "show and go" format. Trips are free, there are no leaders, no instruction. Very nice group of people. Trips are 4-6 miles, all flat water. More info at Yahoo Groups.

Here is how they describe the trips:

Description

This group consists of people that wish to attend paddles organized by Bill and Karen Harter of Seacoast Kayak in Seabrook, NH. Every week in the spring and summer we get together to paddle a different place in southern NH and ME,or northeastern MA. We are off the water by dusk, then anyone interested is invited to join us at a local restaurant for a bite to eat. May and August paddles have an EARLY launch time of 6pm. All trips are FREE.

In the past, the paddle was cancelled due to bad weather. Since these are truely "paddle at your own risk" events, we will no longer cancel. It will be up to each individual as to whether or not they want to come.

Please note that if you are unfamiliar with paddle spots that have been chosen, it is up to you to find out if your skill level is appropriate. These paddles are considered get-togethers, not tours, and are not for instruction. They are not appropriate for first time kayakers. You should be comfortable with paddling, although most trips are quite easy.

Also, members are encouraged to use this forum to send out emails to all members of the group for the purposes of organizing informal paddles throughout the year, organizing social events, or to simply communicate with the group in general. The communications should be kayaking-related only. Be as specific as possible when organizing your own trip as to the difficulty of the paddle and the location.
