djlewis
A group will be launching from Pebble Beach on Cape Ann at 10:00 AM Saturday for points north -- possibilities include Milk, Thatcher, Rockport, The Salvages, Halibut... depending on the group's inclinations, but in the 10+ NM range. Conditions will be mild, but it's definitely offshore, level 3 paddling. The usual disclaimer -- this is not an official NSPN trip, there is no official leader, and everyone is responsible for their own actions, safety and decisions. That said, we will strive to paddle and make decisions as a group, and everybody will try their best to help in any situations. PS: This is the S&G that Kevin and Al were talking about in an earlier Private Trips thread entitled "Saturday July 8 - Level 3 Show & Go - Anywhere (Windmill Point?)" So, not Windmill Point, but Pebble Beach. --David.

Kevin B (RPS Coach)
Yee hah, let's go! Roy, from our list of put-ins: Pebble Beach Take Route 128 north to Gloucester through both rotaries and down to the first traffic light where you take a left onto Eastern Ave. At one mile, towards Rockport, is a Shaw's Supermarket parking lot, turn right on Barn Rd., at the end of the lot, and drive down to Thatcher's Road, Rt.127A, and turn left. Travel 2.5 miles towards Rockport, and up ahead you will see Turk's Head Inn. Turn right before the inn and bear right and continue down until you see the ocean. Just as you come to the end there is a road to your left that takes you along Pebble Beach called Penzance Rd. Pull all the way to the east end of the beach. For Mapquest directions, use Penzance Road. WARNING! Penzance road has been subject to severe erosion in the past few years and has frequently been impassable or closed. When it’s open, there are also issues with parking in-season.

When it’s open, there are also issues with parking >in-season. The road was OK for trip leader training back in May. Of course, there's been a lot of rain since then. If it's not passable, we'll meet at the entrance to Penzance Road, roughly here... http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=282699 and pick another put-in by 9:30 AM. Or, call me on my cell phone 978-618-5709. --David
