nancysan
I was pleasantly invited to join several "racing types" for a paddle from Ipswich wharf to the Red Nun at the mouth of the Ipswich River/Plum Island Sound on Sunday 8/30/15. Got to try out paddling lead in a tandem, passing up a wing paddle for my usual bent shaft Werner. Put in around 8:45pm with full moon coming up, but obstructed by trees. As we started down the Ipswich River the moon quickly became visible, adding a little light to the situation. We met one or two motor boats as the low tide gradually started to rush to mid-tide.Trip was beautiful and relatively uneventful except for a fantastic rush as we went around the Nun and current swept us to about 7 knots rushing back in through the mooring field off little neck. We overshot and missed the turn as we went through the bay, but easily recovered to find the main channel. Headed back to Town Wharf without seeing a single motor boat (or anyone else). Short but sweet. All packed up by 11pm.Not a big night paddler, but this was fun.
