BCU 2/3 Star Training

The BCU 3* encompasses a skill set that is considered by most to define the essence of what it means to be an intermediate paddler. Well rounded and effective skills, personal boat handling skills as well as safety and rescue skills that are an integral part of paddling. If you've ever felt like you were fighting your equipment, or working harder than other paddlers, if you are anything other than energized after a long day on the water then this course can help you find strength, grace, efficiency and ultimately greater enjoyment of paddling.

Whether you have aspirations of becoming a great paddler or just to continue paddling for the rest of your life, this skill set provides the foundation for a life-time of paddling enjoyment, competence and safety. Building a great foundation is not difficult or expensive and the rewards or a strong foundation are realized every time you put a paddle in the water. Join us to learn how you can push your skill level to new heights and rediscover the magic of paddling

About the Instructor:

Jed Luby is certified by the BCU as an L3 Sea, A1; by the ACA as an Coastal Kayak Instructor - Open Water, Rolling and Tidal Currents and is a Registered Maine Guide. He received his BCU & ACA training in Maine, Florida, Georgia & Wales with many of the best coaches / instructors in the industry. He has been teaching sea kayaking since '00 through various outfitters and events in ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, OR, Canada and through his own company Team North Atlantic. Jed's teaching style focuses on personal attention to help his students acquire skills with grace and efficiency on the water and specializes in BCU 3*, 4* and seamanship skills training.

"Sea Kayaking is a unique endeavor that draws on many different life experiences and skill sets, combining graceful movement, athleticism, technical knowledge, planning and judgement in equal measure. Each student needs and deserves their own individual path to finding this balance of skill, grace and judgement. I can think of nothing more rewarding than helping other paddlers to find their own paddling style and to enjoy sea kayaking more deeply."

Fee: $100 for NSPN Members; $120 for non-members

To Register: Send an email to the class facilitator, Paula, at [email protected]. Include your ACA #, boat description, emergency contact name and phone number.

Paula will tell you where to mail your check and will keep the registration list and a waiting list. Paula will only hold your slot when she receives your check made out to NSPN. If you cannot attend you will receive a refund only if your slot can be filled from the waiting list. If the class is oversubscribed Paula will ask if you want to be placed on the waiting list.

All NSPN-sponsored commercial events are run on a “pass-through-the-cost-basis. NSPN may include a very small markup over actual costs to cover incidental expenses and support club activities that benefit the membership as a whole. These classes are still priced well below what commercial outfitters charge for comparable activities. The club does not subsidize activities that benefit only the participants in classes with limited enrollment. Therefore, in the highly unlikely event that the class is canceled due to extreme weather, there will be no refunds. Lightning will obviously keep us off the water, but much can be learned from these talented teachers on shore.
