SEA KAYAKING IN ATLANTIC CANADA

Where the land meets the sea has always held a special fascination and

Atlantic Canada, with its thousands of kilometres of bays, beaches, harbours

and headlands has claimed some of the most spectacular coastline on the

continent. Join us in a slide presentation where we will journey by sea

kayak into little known corners of the east coast, areas that have scarcely

changed since the Europeans first arrived over 400 years ago: The rugged

islands of Nova Scotia’s Atlantic archipelago, the cliffs and whales of the

Cape Breton Highlands, the highest tides on earth in the the Bay of Fundy,

the sand beaches of Prince Edward Island, and the deep fjords and icebergs

of Newfoundland.

explored the Atlantic coast by canoe and sea kayak for over two decades. In

1980 he circumnavigated the entire province in an open canoe. He has written

extensively on the biology, geology and human history of the coastline for

outdoor magazines and has published Sea Kayaking in Nova Scotia, a detailed

route guide. He is a Senior Instructor with the British Canoe Union (5*) and

has developed the national sea kayaking program for the Canadian

Recreational Canoeing Association. Scott lives in Tangier, where he operates

Coastal Adventures.
