Level 2 trip for paddlers who have mastered basic strokes and a wet exit and are now interested in trying kayak camping. Visit the Maine coast, learn about the Maine Island Trail Association, learn boat loading techniques and try out camping gear. Paddle 5 to 7 miles each day in protected conditions on North Casco Bay. Put in location West Bath, Maine about 21/2 hours from Boston. Group size limited to 8 including leaders. Some car pooling may be required given limited parking. Paddlers must have normal paddling gear plus at least a sleeping bag in a dry bag, tent, camping clothes and food. Stove, additional dry bags and other standard camping gear recommended. Suggestions provided by leaders in advance as well as directions and times. Optional private launch site camping Friday night August 12th for those who would like to extend the weekend.
