Waquoit Bay, Falmouth

Level 2 Paddle"

This will be a leisurely exploration of Waquoit Bay in Falmouth, one of the most scenic and pristine of the Cape’s waterway gems, home of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. We will visit Washburn Island and the ponds and streams around the Bay. If conditions permit, we will take a short excursion into Vineyard Sound and lunch on a beach. PPPO/dinner at one of the great Falmouth restaurants. We will launch at noon (arrive by 11:30), which should allow people to

drive down relatively late and miss the worst of the inevitable traffic. We'll have lunch somewhere on the paddle, and return by 5:00-5:30 PM.

This will be a level 2 paddle, mostly protected waters, but with a couple of factors that make it more like 2+ (which is not an official designation). These include distance around 10 nm (the maximum for level 2), the

possibility of a short excursion on the open coastline of Vineyard Sound (if conditions are mild), and if so then also some current and chop (but still level 2) in the Bay entry channel.

Leaders: David Lewis & Allan Moore. RSVP: David Lewis

PS: Deborah and I will be also be paddling on Sunday at a spot on the

Cape TBD (Wellfleet? Monomoy?). Anyone is welcome to stay over and join us.

If there's enough interest I may be able to post an official trip, but we'll need another leader.
