Can you get back in your boat? Can you rescue someone else?
If you have never learned rescues because you think you’ll never flip over, this clinic is for you! And, it is much better to try this for the first time in a nice warm pool rather than in the cold, cold ocean.
If you have ever watched a rescue demonstration and thought: “Yeah, right, easy for them” this clinic is for you. We’ll teach a variety of ways for the non-gymnists among us to get back in their boats.
If your friend is afraid to even try a wet exit and they think you can handle the rescue thing, this clinic is for them. Bring them along - the two of you can share a slot. (Both of you will need to register.) Hey: do you really want to paddle with someone who does not know how to rescue you?
If you paddle a rec boat with no bulkheads this class is for you. Bring your boat and we’ll help you figure out what you can and cannot do if you capsize, and illustrate the importance of proper flotation.
If you have figured out a way to get back in your boat that does not appear in any of the books, come on out and “pass it forward.”
What to bring: kayak, paddle, PFD, paddlefloat (if you have one), a piece of webbing or rope approximately 2.5 yards long, 2 carabiners (if you have them) LOTS OF QUESTIONS :-))
Cost: The clinic is free. You pay your regular share of the pool rental: $25. (Non-members pay $31 to cover the additional ACA event insurance fee of $6 and must sign both waivers.)
NSPN requires that payment for the pool sessions must be made in advance of the pool session. Your Registrar will provide you with the details that you need to know. Pool sessions are non-refundable but we expect this one to sell out so someone from the waiting list may be able to take your place if you cannot make it.
When you inquire about a pool session, please include: Your name, phone number, NSPN membership number, expiration date, emergency contact and their phone number in the email.
