Chebacco Lake practice sessions
Come join us at Chebacco Lake in Hamilton on Thursdays at 5pm until sunset though the summer. Work on fundamentals in a relaxing environment with the support of other paddlers. Practice strokes, rolls, rescues, falling out of your boat, or just watching kingfishers. Dress for immersion. A wetsuit is warm enough in early season, and keeps down the bruises from climbing back into your boat ten times a night.
We meet at the boat ramp at the south end of the lake, and hang out in the cove to the left of the ramp. You can either get off 128 at Pine st (exit 49) and head north, or find Chebacco road off Rt 22 in Essex. No entrance fees. Sign up below if you're coming.

Camp at Umbagog Lake
7/06/26 update: This trip is now full, and has 3 people on the waitlist.
We have a remote campsite at the lake in July! If you haven't visited this area before, think of a lake ringed by mountains. During the day we can explore the waterways which enter and exit the lake, do some hiking, and visit a beach. Evening sunsets behind the mountains are amazing, as is the nightly loon chorus, sometimes accompanied by a parade. The site can hold a maximum of 5 tents. Message me (Jody Harris) if you would like more details and are interested in joining the trip.

Advanced Kayaking Skills with Todd Johnstone-Wright
This two-day coastal paddling clinic is designed for experienced paddlers who are comfortable in Paddle UK Moderate Water (wind to 16 kt, current to 2 kt, launch and land through 1 meter surf) or ACA Level 3 conditions and looking to take their skills to the next level.
Over two fun and focused days, we’ll dive into how to move, play, and travel efficiently and safely in dynamic coastal environments. You’ll build confidence in your technical paddling and rescue skills while exploring the judgment and decision-making that keep trips smooth when conditions get busy.
We’ll also look at leadership—how to make good calls, work as a team, and support both safety and fun on the water. The course follows a learner-centered approach, shaped around your goals and experience, ensuring that every paddler leaves more capable, confident, and connected to the sea.
Venue will be local to the North Shore, and will be chosen to take advantage of conditions.
Registration link to follow soon. Follow this event to receive updates.
Cost for this two-day workshop will be $185. Comparable training opportunities typically cost $170/day. This is in addition to our free (to members) peer-led skills sessions throughout the season, and will be a good complement to them.
This clinic is open to 10 participants. We need to determine demand. If you are interested in joining, respond HERE by March 21. We'll open registration later.

Haverhill pool sessionPool sessions at the Haverhill High School for the 2025 winter season are available to paid members of NSPN for purchase in the Store. Cost is $30 for each session. Pool sessions can only be purchased through the Store using PayPal or credit card . If you have trouble with membership or purchasing a session, email [email protected]
We use the ACA club insurance program. You need to sign the online ACA Liability Waiver here. If you are not an ACA member, you will need to pay the additional $10 ACA Event Fee for each session. You can become an ACA member by signing up here and selecting North Shore Paddlers Network from the Paddle America Clubs drop-down list. The annual membership fee is $40, which will be "paid back" in only four pool sessions or summer skills sessions, since there is no Event Fee for ACA members.
These sessions are a great way to keep existing skills active over the cold winter months or work on new skills for the upcoming paddling season. Although NSPN does not offer official instruction, many members are willing to offer whatever assistance they can while they are at the pool. However, if you would like to pay for professional instruction, you can seek out an instructor directly, either from NSPN members (some of who are actually certified!) or from other professional instructors. If the instructor will have a boat in the pool, they will need a pool session spot purchased. If they are only going to instruct from the poolside, then they do not need a spot. Regardless, all attendees (whether in the pool or instructing poolside) MUST have signed an online ACA Waiver and paid the $10 Event Fee if they are not an ACA member.
Please follow these instructions for pool session purchases:
Click on this link to go to the list of pool session dates (or access them through the Store link in the blue top banner on the message board) Choose the pool session that you want to attend and click Add To Cart If you are not an ACA member, you must Add To Cart the $10 Event Fee. If you would like to add another pool session, click on Continue Shopping, otherwise skip to Step #7 Select Pool Sessions from the Product Categories list on the left Repeat steps #2-#4 for each pool session you want to add (you must add the $10 event fee for each session if not an ACA member) To pay for your selections, click Checkout and then Confirm My Order. We cannot issue any refunds unless the pool facility closes due to inclement weather or other reasons. If you are unable to attend a pool session after purchase and would like to let someone else purchase the session from you, you must make those arrangements on your own. We will try to post a reminder for each session where you can look for someone to purchase your slot, or start a new posting if you choose. They must have signed the online ACA waiver, and pay the $10 Event Fee if required.
