  • NSPN Leadership Training Fund

To encourage our members to develop their leadership skills and share them with the club, NSPN has a Leadership Training Fund.  If you post and complete three trips, you may be reimbursed up to $150 for leadership or coaching training.

    Trips:

Trips must be posted on the NSPN trips forum.  Trips must have a pre-trip float plan, and a trip report has to be posted on the Trip Reports forum.  Trips must have at least three participants and be of a duration of three hours or more.  Regularly scheduled club practice sessions such as the Chebacco or Walden Pond sessions, with open enrollment and no float plan, don’t qualify.  Trips don’t have to be in the same calendar year, or in the same year as the training.

    Training:

Leadership and coaching training are eligible for reimbursement, but individual skills training isn’t.  Approved courses include BC sea kayak leader or coach training or assessment; ACA coastal kayak leader (3, 4) or instructor (2, 3, 4, 5) training or assessment, Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning, Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning, Kayak Guide Training, and Maine Guide Training.

    Reimbursement:

You may be reimbursed for the cost of training, to a maximum of $150.  Each member may receive reimbursement for two trainings per year (with six trips), to a total club maximum of $1500/year.  To be reimbursed, after completing the training, submit the receipt for training and the written float plan for each of the three trips to the board at nspnboard@nspn.org. Reimbursement request must be submitted in the same year as training.
