Anyone know of launch sites on southern Mount Desert Island that allow overnight parking?

Gary,

Manset is a possibility. I think you can park overnight there if you make arrangements with the authorities; police, town hall, whatever.

You can park overnight @ the vast boat launch in Northeast Harbor for a fee, something like $5 or $7 a night. Pay at the police station a short walk from the boat launch.

You can park (for free) overnight in Seal Cove, which is on SW MDI, between Bass Harbor and Bartlett Sound.

In addition to those mentioned by Peter.

I believe you can park overnight at the Tremont town warf in Bass Harbor. Often commercial marinas will let you park overnight for a very reasonable fee which is a good deal as they often provide showers/changing areas, bathrooms, and secure parking. The folks on the ground so to speak at them can be friendly toward paddlers although the marina is obviously dedicated to a totally different clientele.

You might ask about overnight parking at the state ferry terminal in Bass Harbor. If not busy, they might let you park for the fee charged those going over to Swans. Often if you ask folks if you can park for a day or two in an inobvious place they will say yes and always good to offer to pay something. Might find such a place near Seal Harbor which is a very nice launch location for south end of MDI, but no formal overnight parking AFAIK.

On the (maybe) bucket list, but have my sights on those southern magical islands that you have so adoringly referred to in your previous posts.

Thanks Ed and Peter for the info.
