cnsladd Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Rough Water Sea Kayaking Weekend With Carl Ladd & John CarmodyTide, current, wind and swell,—it’s all a part of kayaking on the sea. You’ll take your existing skills and apply them in the dynamic environments of open water, tidal currents, or surf. Not only will you learn to deal with these conditions, but you’ll also discover how to make various water features work for you to make paddling more efficient and fun.Topics covered will depend on the conditions we find, but may include simple navigation, entering and exiting currents, ferry gliding, handling following seas, bracing and recoveries in open water, and launching and landing through the surf zone. Day one will be more focused on boat handling abilities and navigation skills, piloting and dead reckoning. Day two we plan to put our skills to the test on either a coastal day trip or, weather willing, a crossing to Cuttyhunk & Elizabeth Islands.
