I MUST be back at my car by 2 PM, but if others want to stretch this trip longer, feel free. Post interest. NOTE: If the wind makes it too choppy, we could stay in Plum Island sound but the tide will be coming in when we (I) need to get back to the put in and the current can be strong.

Put-In Location & Town: Pavillion Beach, Ipswich

Parking: Cluster cars at left end of beach to minimize impact

Time of Launch: 10:00am launch

Expected Time of Takeout: 2:00 pm

Planned Duration: approx 4 hours

Minimum Skill Level: 3

We launch at Pavillion Beach, and let the current carry us past the south tip of Plum Island. We continue along Crane beach till we find a nice spot away from the swimmers and lifeguards (this may be the east end of Castle Neck, the west end of Coffins Beach, or the sheltered beaches just inside Essex Bay). We’ll settle in for a [break] on a nice sandbar, for lunch, snorkling, sunbathing, surf-fishing, tall tales, volleyball, or whatever. Pot-luck lunch contributions will be competitively assessed. The rising tide will remind us to [return], and we’ll paddle back, letting the tide push us right back to the cars. Depending on where we park, 9-12 nm may be paddled, but at a mellow pace. This is a level 3 for exposure to open ocean – takeout along Cranes beach is not recommended due to swimmers, and will be difficult if the surf is up.

Jeff Casey: If this looks familiar, it is indeed a cut and paste from one of your trips. :-)

Hi Liz-Looks like an attractive paddle-I was tempted to join but am nursing a recent rib cage injury, perhaps brought on by rolling. Even swimming seems to aggravate it and any torso rotation makes it worse. Looks like I'm limited to dog walking until this heals up.
