Posted November 18, 200420 yr Every year on the day after Thanksgiving, a bunch of us paddle to Little Misery Island to hang out and share leftovers. Sometimes we manage to get multiple pods from different put-ins.The Manchester to Misery is a short trip, firmly in the level 2 category for distance. The Marblehead to Misery is quite a bit longer and exposed with long distances without bailouts. It is a high level 3 trip. There is also the option of launching from the Greasy Pole which is less exposed, but involves paddling over 16 nautical miles total, a level 4 for distance. I am also considering breaking with tradition a bit and leading a pod from Obear Park in Beverly. This would be a level 3 for distance without the exposure. Please respond here with your interest, especially which trip you are most interested in. If you don't want to post publicly, you can send an e-mail to me at dee dot hall at verizon dot net. If you are a paddler with some leadership experience and are interested in leading a pod, please let me know. The water temperatures are below 50 degrees, which means that we are firmly in drysuit season.
November 19, 200420 yr I was just talking with Patty (on the way home from the Iceland/Greenland slide show at ERBA) about the fact that no one had posted anything about our traditional paddle. And, about how the full moon falls on that day. Here is how it looks:Sun Set: 4:15pmTwi: 4:46pmMoon Rise: 3:56pmMoon Set: 6:42amFull Moon: 3:08pmAny interest in doing this trip a bit later than usual to watch the moonrise and paddle back in the twilight? I'll probably leave from Manchester Harbor.Liz N.
November 19, 200420 yr If this turns out be a late day event I would be able to join you folks. I am putting my mother on a plane home that day. Perhaps someone else would have similar aspirations who would like to join me.
November 19, 200420 yr I fly back to Manchester at 11 that day, so any time after that would work for me. Count me in if it's a late-day paddle.kate

November 26, 200420 yr Author Tomorrow's forecast does not meet Liz's and my criterion for fun. Bob, Liz, and myself will be at the Manchester boat ramp on SATURDAY at 1PM. Some sort of light is a coast guard requirement after 4:12PM (sunset.)-Dee
November 26, 200420 yr I am almost positive that it's required that you put her in and not on, the plane. Even with discount airlines, the cheapest seats available are IN the aircraft.Just a heads up. Don't want you ro get in trouble with the authorities once you started duct taping her to a wing or something. The python version would go something like....."Bobby, this doesn't look safe" "No, no...this is fine ma. People do it all the time." "okay...a little more...and...snug?" "great...see you at christmas then, off you go."Hope you had a good thanksgiving!
November 26, 200420 yr Is anybody doing a trip on Sunday?
