sng's - rescues on saturday

with the cancellation of the womens level 2 sng, the rescues sng will run solo and meet in rockport on back beach (by the band stand building) at 10 am. this late in the season, i don't think that parking is going to be an issue...they pretty much roll up the sidewalks....

forecast and tide info is below but you should CHECK ALL THESE THINGS FOR YOURSELF - ALWAYS CHECK. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN WELL BEING!

there...disclaimer done.

so, we'll meet and chat on the beach awhile and discuss some of the things that need to be thought about when you push the boat into the water - talk about weather and how that impacts what we want to do, we'll talk about gear - why you have what you have or should have what maybe you're missing and then we can start a review of rescues/tows on shore and then practice there in the harbor. if that all goes well and folks would like and the weather allows, we can stick our noses out a ways and see how those rescues/tows feel out in a bit of swell...

afterwards, we will debrief on the beach and see what folks liked, didn't like and what they encountered that was different than they expected...

pack a lunch and see you on saturday!

Actually the directions to front beach are pretty bad.

Back beach: Take Rt. 128 to Gloucester, straight past TWO rotaries. Get in the left lane as you approach the traffic light and turn left onto Rt. 127, toward Rockport. You will come to a confusing intersection where Rt. 127 turns LEFT onto Railroad Avenue. Stay on Rt. 127. You will pass Dunkin' Donuts and the train station on your left and Rockport Bank on your right.

Railroad Avenue changes into Granite Street and heads downhill. At the bottom of the hill you can see the water to the right. Take a SHARP RIGHT onto the aptly named Beach Street. Back beach is right there. Park at meters.

Rick,

I’d join you if I didn’t have a date with Fiona Whitehead in GA. on Sat. I hear the man in black may show off his suit…wheeewee!

It’s true that..."bravest" and the "stupidest" are not mutually exclusive terms.

It reminds me of the famous last words of many a “southern red-neck whitewater daredevil”

“Hey Ya’ll, Watch This!”

you guys are really fortunate to go and take the instruction there....warm water, sandy bottoms, the triangle right off shore and the calibre of paddlers and people you will be surrounded, immersed and instructed by are world class!

have a great time!

I'm so glad you guys are doing this event! I'd like to participate, sharpen some skills I was shown a few years ago but have never really practiced. Is it OK to show up at 11:00 (daughter's soccer game) or is it better to wait for the next one?

To Rick and his volunteers:

Many thanks to you all for your generous sharing of knowledge, skills, time, and humor. I haven't been bitten by the cold weather paddling bug, so unfortunately I need to store the information until spring. Christopher, a special thanks for your help, and yes, I will get to those Chebacco skill sessions.

Thanks Rick, supporting helpers and attending members. It was a great day on the water. Learned a lot. It was good to have an opportunity to meet new people and get the opportunity to practice and play with fellow paddlers.

It was great to learn rescues in 4-6ft seas with winds gusting to 40mph(:-)) (:-)).Weatherman was right on!

John, thanks for showing me how not to get stuck in the rocks(:-)). It was better me rescuing you than you rescuing me(:-)).

Know if someone could just tell me how to get my body to stop hurting so much? It would thank you.
