Roger Turgeon Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I'm going to try to get there to join you, too. Sorry about the late notice. If anyone going happens to live near Bradford, or along the way so that carpooling would work, please post here. I'll check the site by 8:00 a.m., if I'm going to make it at all. Of course if I end up sleeping in, well, you all have fun. Roger Turgeon Night Heron-cedar-strip
Grajan Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Having just got in from tonight's paddle at midnight I suspect we will be absent tomorrow. Just in case - what frequency will you be on? Graham Janaki and I will probably be there - depends how long Saturday night goes.... Graham
rylevine Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I'll be coming up from Salem way after dropping Lorrie of at 8:30 and will have room for 1 boat if some one wants a ride. Also, paddled out of Manchester today and the outside had 2-3 with the occasional 4' swell. Kinda close together but you get what you get. Phil Phil, My wife is dropping me off before going to Rockport. I may be interested in a ride back to Salem at the end if you have room on your car. Not a problem, though, if you have a passenger already. I'll check with you at the start. Thanks. Bob

We will monitor 72. Tentative itinerary (subject to group decision) is up the coast to Loblolly, Straitsmouth, lunch on a beach, Straitsmouth and/or Salvages after lunch.

glad Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Yes, there will definitely be plenty to do for folks in milder water. The detailed local forecast for the area is all but flat -- just 1 foot of swell (see http://bit.ly/3V5Gyb, a terrific tool that accounts for swell direction and shadowing landforms). Hey David - totally cool link to the graphical wave heights. Sorry not to join you today. Did a full moon paddle in 2-4 ft waves around Gerrish Island last night. Beautiful evening, deliciious birthday cake and ride from NH anded me home at 2 am. K

Ed Lawson It was excellent -- I'll let others supply details. There were 17 of us! As for pictures... ummm... I pushed the shutter button and heard an ominous beep. Yup, left the SD card back in the reader in my office. ;-((( So, no pictures. Sorry. --David.

Thanks to David, Peter, Rick and others who provided excellent skills instruction. Would really like to do this more often; maybe in progressively rougher seas and/or during breaks in normal paddling trips. Bob

Would really like to do this more often; maybe in progressively rougher seas and/or during breaks in normal paddling trips. Bob That was a fine day. Thank you, David Lewis, for putting this together! We had a group of game paddlers, and there were rescues, and tows, and also some good pantomime: unconscious victims face down, then face up, in the water, panicky disoriented ,uncooperative victims, capsized towees , barfing seasick towee, etc; At least one for-real rescue in the rocks, which Laura pulled off with smoothness and finesse. And a crisp group launch and landing at dumping steep pebble strewn beach at the beginning and end of day were good bookends. Thanks also , to Gay for bringing that giant tin of home baked goodies.
glil Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Thanks to David for organizing this trip and to everyone else who helped with instruction. It was a beautiful day on the water with nice company. We had a great group to practice with and there as no lack of people out of their boats in "need" of rescue. We experimented with a few variations of rescues as well as practicing a variety of tow set-ups. It was really nice to have a group with a wide spectrum of paddling skills and some very skilled paddlers taking the time to pass on some of their knowledge to the rest of us. Gay
