SNG - New Castle Island Circumnavigation

This Saturday we plan on going to Odiorne State Park to put in for a paddle around New Castle Island. It is a level 3 paddle, there are strong currents and confused waves in the Piscataqua River in some areas. We plan on having lunch at Four Tree Island across from Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth. The trip will be approximately 13 miles and plan on a put in at 9:30am and return around 2:30. We have done this paddle a few times and it is a nice paddle with lighthouses and forts for scenery. The put-in is located on Route 1A at the foot of the wooden bridge (free parking available). If anyone needs a more detailed description to the put-in, just let us know and we'll post more details.

I know its late but I was hoping to get better directions to the putin as I would like to join you on your paddle Saturday. I know where the Strawberry Bank launch ramp is. If you can give me a little more direction I will meet you there.

I won't be there but here is what I have for directions to Odiorne:

Take Rt 95 North (or South) and take the exit for the Portsmouth Traffic Circle. Follow RT 1 Bypass SOUTH. (You'll see hospital signs pointing the same way). You'll go through about 4 or 5 sets of lights. (On the way, you'll see a plaza with Margaritas and Pier I in it on the left). At the set of lights where there is a Sprague Energy gas station on right and Exxon (or Mobile) on left, take that left. I can't remember the street name but I believe there is a sign for "Beaches" or RT 1-A at that intersection. Follow the road to an 4 way intersection. (There's a gourmet shop on left). Go straight through intersection (follow signs towards beaches/Rye). A couple miles down is Ordione (it will be on your left). Parking area is right after the wooden bridge. There is a $5 charge to park.

Here are the directions:

I-95 North to exit 5, Portsmouth Traffic Circle. Go 1/4 around the circle to Route 1 By-Pass south to Route 1 south. Take a left onto 1A south at the traffic lights at Elwyn Road. Follow Route 1A south for several miles and Odiorne State Park will be on the left.

At the traffic lights at Elwyn Road there is a Market Basket on the right opposite corner and a Mobile or Exxon on the left opposite corner.

There is a wooden bridge just before the Park and there is free parking there.
