Isle of Shoals

Shooting for July 27 or Aug 9 or 10. Please commit to one of these days. I want to know exactly who will be coming on this trip beforehand so I can plan accordingly. If you happen to be one of those people who can't commit to a trip ahead of time, then you might be out of luck :)

Kevin -- any of those dates works for me.

Regarding my post with a distance from Google Earth but no units, I was so enthralled with my discovery of the ruler tool that I forgot about nautical vs statute -- earned myself an F on that assignment.

BTW, I noticed what looks like a large parking lot right next to the beach in Wallis Sands State Park. From there to Appledore is showing as 5.3 nautical (6.1 statute) miles. Is that a possible launch site?

I would love to do this paddle also. It has been years since I have been out to the islands. August 2nd thru the 9th would be tough for me to make it but almost any other time.

Assuming the launch would be from Odiorne Park, using the ruler tool in Google Earth I get 6 miles from there to the closest point in the Isles, Appledore.

There is a marine lab on Appledore and stopping on the island requires permission. Cedar and Lunging are private. Duck is a bird sanctuary. Smuttynose, Malaga, Star, White, Seaveys OK to land.

If heading to Smutty, shortest distance is to launch from Rye Harbor. On north side of harbor is small lot (no fee) that can accomodate a number of cars. From Rye Harbor to Smuttynose approx 6nm. Nice rock gardening out there.

The seals at Duck Island can be a lot of fun, we were just diving/snorkeling with them a week ago.

Planning an Isle of Shoals trip in July or August. This is NOT a mothership trip. We'll be paddling out and back. If interested, please post or email:)

Due to unforeseen family obligations this weekend, I'll be doing this trip in September. Expect to do so the third weekend of that month.
