Kayak support needed for Charles River Swim

The Charles River Swimming Club is looking for volunteers to help with kayak support for a one-mile swimming race.

Date: Sunday, June 15, 2008

Time: Race starts at 8am and should be over shortly after 9am; kayak volunteers should plan on being there by 6:30am (we promise you coffee)

Location: The race will start at the River Dock near the Hatch Shell and Arthur Fiedler statue on the Esplanade. The swimmers will swim a loop course in the basin between the Harvard and Longfellow bridge.

Required skills: good enough kayaking skills to reach a swimmer quickly in case a rescue is necessary (there will be a minimum of one kayaker stationed every 1/8 of a mile) and decent swimming skills. We will have a Boston Whaler on the water staffed with lifeguards.

Kayaks: we might be able to supply a couple of kayaks, but don't have enough for the whole crew. If you have your own, please plan on bringing it.

We are also looking for general volunteers to help with timing, registration, set-up and clean-up and lifeguarding. If you are interested in helping out in some shape or form, please respond via email Ulla Hester at ulla @ harlesriverswimmingclub.org.

Please forward this to anybody who might be interested.

Thank you!
