Bolonsky Adam Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 If you're planning a serious expedition or know someone who is, please get in touch. SPOT has given me two live, fully-functional emergency GPS messaging units to give to two paddlers. The units include satellite service: 911, 10-minute tracking, HELP and OK messages. The unit's a good way to check in daily with friends and family from water or when you touch down on land. If you want to know more about the unit, download the current issue of WaveLength magazine or go to findmespot.com Push 911 and GEOS activates search and rescue. SPOT works when cell phones won't, and allows you to show daily or hourly, via Google Maps, where you are. Messages are sent via text to cell phones or to email accounts or both. All messages include your current lat and long coordinates. No strings attached. Only requirement is that your trip be somewhere relatively remote and that it be much more than a week's casual float and bloat -- say an expedition in support of a cause or for research, or as part of an adventure race.
