Recommended Posts

QUOTE(Kevin B @ Nov 30 2007, 01:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Does anyone want to step forward and be the Registrar for the Beverly pool sessions this year? :)

I can do it.

Now, exactly what is it I just volunteered to do?

Each month you will need to record requests with name, etc. on a spreadsheet. When the spreadsheet fills up you need to tell the remaining requests they are on a waiting list (and keep said list - I keep it on the same spreadsheet, read on.) If you haven't received a check by game day you have the discretion to allow a paid-but-waitlisted person in. The club has paid ahead for the session and you need to do your best to meet the financial obligation. You are providing plenty of time for people to send you the check anyway. Also, people often don't show up without notice while others are unavoidably detained, so there's some discretion involved. Try to get additional non-paying attendees to act as spotters. These attendees should not bring boats as the pool decks get crowded by ~10 boats. They may be able to grab someone else's boat if, as the evening progresses, some of the attendees have gotten tired or otherwise vacated the pool.

The club will post a detailed description of what an attendee needs to do to sign up, etc. Keep a copy of this as many of the signees won't bother to read it and will ask you the questions answered in the posting. In January you may cheerfully answer these questions, by April you may paste the posting into a reply message.

You aren't obligated to show up at the session, or haven't been in any prior year, but if you do expect to be considered more or less "trip leader" for the evening - especially for the first time attendees. Attendees need to be there early enough to get boats off the cars and park to avoid blocking any driveways. Boats are taken into a warm place where people, often children, are wet so you need to be respectful of this when the boats are brought in. Boats need to be clean, there is a hose at most pools to clean them up inside and out prior to putting them in the pool. People should try to do this prior to arriving but its difficult in the winter.

In all cases, remember that you are a guest and should follow the rules of the pool you are visiting. The "Y" prints them on large signs.
