AlexL, Lmac, and me launched from pavilion after a brief strategy session. at about 1230. The original plan was to go up into plum island sound. Slack water and a flooding shortly after changed our minds. Float plan filled out radio on 16 and away we went downriver and out to sea. Alex took the opportunities to get us into low braces on 1-2 foot steep swell further increased the level of difficulty as we got more confortable with our skills.

Next came confused seas and surf. The Bar by the number 2 ipswich river provided some fairly educational environments. The water depth at our time was between 6" and 3 feet. Current pushed from the inside (crane beach end) and the ocean exposure creating lots of standing waves with incredible foaming action. I think Lmac really got into it. If I smiled as much as she was my face would have been hurting. She disappeared in the middle of the foam many time times and was upright on the other side. I practiced more low braces as well as surfing forward and backward.

Having enough we adjourned to Sandy point for hot tea and a break. Alex ever in the teaching mode used the flood and return to teach us going in and out of eddy currents and the use of ferry angles. Back to the beach load up and gone for the NESC pool session.

It seems so counter intuitive to seek out stuff I have tried my best to avoid in power boats. Need to figure out how to unlearn some of this. It is a significant contrast for people coming from lifesaving and power craft.
