9.29 Forrest River Park practice SNG

Just a quick note... A few of us showed up for Kevin's Friday practice SNG at Forrest River park. Can't remember all the names but there were at least 6 of us (myself included). Anyhow not much to note (my sculling for support is coming along and I cowboyed up twice (something I absolutely could not do 3 weeks to a month ago) but anyhow... here's the interesting part.

All of us are paddling around in our full wet suits and dry suits, many of us with neo gloves on as well. Before we jumped in I used my Fluke IR thermometer and measured the surface temp of the water a few feet in at 58 degrees farenheit. So... here we are in the chilly water when this older bloke comes along, strips down to his swim trunks, jumps in and starts swimming. I think all of us got colder just watching him. I don't think it was more than 5 to 7 minutes before he got out but I remember all of us looking at each other and the look on each of our faces said "this one fell out of the psycho tree and hit every branch on the way down". We were getting cold just watching him. More power to him I guess. Maybe he has some amazing control over his metabolism like the Himalayan monks that can sleep outside in sub zero temps in a wet blanket and not only survive but also manage to evaporate all of the water in the blanket by the morning but personally... I think he was just nuts!!! LOL

By the time I got out I couldn't feel the little piggies that had roast beef and the little piggies that had none. BRRRRrrrrrrrr. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where they all went to the Hamptons where George exclaimed that "he was in the pool" when Jerry's GF saw him naked (along with the following dialog where Elaine learns about "shrinkage").

So... that's my story! Fortunately my dry suit arrived today, I'm hoping it keeps the little piggies a little warmer.

Cheers, Joe

Hmm, interesting. Doug, Heidi, Joe, Deb, Bob and myself were all present. Doug made great strides in his draw strokes and reaffirmed to himself that he can roll. Congrats Doug! Heidi continued to learn and even took the "you can't get off the water without a wet exit" technique with good humor. Congrats Heidi!
