bob budd
Trolled the coast north of Manchester. Found considerable places to poke into, given the modest seas. Though I still despise the loud cigarette boats based upon the buoy readings what waves we did have were from their wakes. A few long chutes were plyed that I would normally avoid. Otherwise sometimes hung up on the rocks waiting for the next wave to carry me through. Lunch found a diver at a small beach by the side of the road, no parking. Walter passed out jello and energy bars. He left the beach in my Easky and after I saw he wasn’t coming right back I left the beach in his Assateaque, me and the spare space in the cockpit that is. After a short while we started looking for a beach to swap boats, approached a “No Trespassing, blah, blah, blah” sign and went on. Ended up in a protected section sliding in and out of boats and on and off of rocks. At the end of Singing Beach there is a series of gunk holes that approach a small cove. Therein we found a rather determined bull terrier doing laps in the water. Quite surreal actually, you see something that looks like a dog swimming in circles in the water. No really, it looks like a dog swimming in circles in the water. Damn, that’s a dog swimming circles in the water. The determined (stubborn?stupid?) brute had his mouth around the stick portion of a lobster buoy and swam in continuous circles presumably trying to get it to shore. Deciding that he/she might eventually become part of the local flotsam I rested the prize from his ample maw. He/she then swam slowly toward the rocks, not the beach, and executed a perfect seal landing. From there he/she meticulously picked his way up and down the rocks, eventually appearing on land. After more tomfoolery on some rocks away from the coast we chose to hit Chubb Creek. Noticing that we had gone scant miles from our put-in we were quickly crossing the harbour. Domestic tranquility sent Walter back to the put-in while Roger and I continued to the creek. After a bit of foolish splashing and making progress only in reverse we both walked our boats to the swirling pool beside the overpass. For me a few capsizes as I don’t always lean correctly when facing the wave, once sucked out of my boat. No injuries and much fun was had before we road the current and walked our boats over the stretch leading out to >2” of water.
RogerPollock
Not to mention the person on the bicycle in the water . . . Too far to sea to really understand what the set up was, the bike was set up on pontoons and propelled, somehow, by pedaling . . . It was like, is that a guy out there on a bike? It IS a guy out there on a bike!! A day of strange sights . . .
