I'll be at Great Pond again this Wednesday around 5:00-5:30 p.m. Warm water, easy put-in. The session will be "free play" or whatever the group wants to work on.

Great Pond is about 20 minutes east of Salem; 20 minutes north of Haverhill, MA; 30 minutes SW of Portsmouth; 25 minutes from Seabrook; 15-20 minutes from Exeter/Stratham; 15 minutes from Epping.

The put-in will be at the boat ramp on Main St., right off Rte 111 and the Rte 125 intersection. There is a sign for the Lakeside Restaurant at the corner of Rte 111 and Main St. The put-in is just past the restaurant on the left.

Hey, we missed you Bill! And, there was another Anas there looking for a playmate ;-)

Another? Who was that? Peter? As soon as I can make it go straight for more than 50', maybe we can have a fleet parade.

Oh man...rats...had a doctor appointment at 3:00 in Burlington, he didn't actually see us till after 5:00. By the time I got home it was after 7:00. Who was the other Anas? I only know of 3 others, Ed, Peter, and Paula. Ed: I assume you have now confiscated the Anas from your wife, and are planning to keep it. Stick with it, it is a very fun boat. I am starting to get quite comfortable in the Anas. Sunday, we had a great day with some outstanding surf/conditions outside the Merrimack. The Anas is superb in the surf. I managed to stay upright through all of the tough stuff, and then capsized on a little standing breaker at the end of the day. I must have been tired :).

The other Anas paddler was Peter. We didn't have too much surfable stuff though ;-)

I have been astride my Anas for most of the summer and have thought often of Mr. Gwynn and how he must be as happy as a pig in poop in his new mount. Sweet boat huh, Bill? Missed you on Wednesday; maybe our boats could have mated and had pink babies. Some time we must have an Anas acuta party.

Thought you two had paddled off the edge of the Earth...

The boat is great, I am still learning. I am amazed at all the people I have met wanting to and taking the time to show me all the various things one needs to know.

Got up to doing paddle-float assisted rolls (thanks, Cathy.) That is until I came up after one too many with a bad case of motion sickness. Very possibly related to getting water in my ears along with the rolling motion. So, one day of pondering "can I do this?", and now I am ready to go again.

Hey Brian I get that too . . . there are ear plugs called Pro Plugs which are sized to your ear that will really help with the dizziness - I get dizzy after a few attempts w/out them. I forget where you can buy them but Kevin will remember - I'll ask him . . . I may do a light paddle on sunday if I'm up to it, maybe around Marblehead if you're interested . . . it will be a bit of a last minute call . . .

Yes! Marblehead is one place I have always thought of as I started down this adventurous road (really bad metaphor for paddling.)

Googled for Pro Plugs - couldn't have been simpler: www.proplugs.com

Thanks for the heads up (hmmm, rolling, heads up...I'm working on it.)
