Ok, it's a go! The weather looks fantastic and conditions look great for a L2/L2+ paddle. Put in at 9am (please be prompt :) at Riverhead Beach in Marblehead. Access to the Festival is free and our group has also been invited to stop by Pioneer Village at Forest River State Park if we want to, also free. For those unfamiliar with the Village, check out http://www.essexheritage.org/sites/pioneer_village.shtml

If you need to get in touch with, please call me at 978.270.8170. Let's get ready to paddle! :)

Gilly and I are willing to do the above mentioned trip on Sat. to coincide with the Salem Maritime Festival taking place that day. We'll put-in at 9am at Riverhead (read on the water at that time!) and paddle towards Salem, landing on Derby beach to take in the Festival which starts at 10am. We'll then paddle to the Willows and then follow our path back to the put in. Not sure when we'll be off the water since it will depend upon how much time is spent at the Festival. Please post here with interest. If we don't get more than two people interested, we'll do a different trip that day. This is a great chance for those with limited experience to get some ocean exposure. There won't be much surf, but there are some rocks to play in and there should be plenty of boat wakes for those who want a little bit of a bumpy ride. Don't wait, post now!

In the event that the weather doesn't cooperate with a L2 paddle, I'll change the route to accomodate.

Kevin,

Do you have any sort of a rough idea of how long you might be taking in the festival? Are you thinking of something like 1 hour, or 5 hours, or ?

Thanks,

C'mon you new paddlers (or experienced for that matter) out there...I only see perhaps 3 confirmed on this post...the more the merrier...so don your pfd, grab your paddle and run, not walk, to your computer to post that you'll join us! Ok, doing those first two steps might seem odd to your loved ones who don't quite understand the kayaker mentality, so just running to your computer will suffice ;)

You're a nut Kevin! I'm pretty sure I'll be there...big honkin' boat and all! :) Sounds like a fun day, and the weather seems like it's going to cooperate too!

P.S. If you really are into Tall Ships, check out this website:

(its working now...)

This is the schooner cruise I was telling you about. Trips are very affordable (cost inludes all meals and a beach lobsterbake on the nicest day). Its a fleet of "old-school" wooden schooners - which means, you hoist the sails ("2-6-heave!!!"), raise the anchor, you pump your head and the water for the shower (neat balancing act!) heated by the wood-burning stove (LOW ceilings!-watch your head!) in the gally (early bird gets the hot water!). (--there are more luxurious schooner cruises out of the same harbor (Camden, ME) that have running water sinks in your rooms...Pluuuease!) This is more like camping on a boat. (If you want to relax no one makes you work the boat, you're still on vacation) What would be really cool is maybe next year coordinating a bunch of Old-salts from the kayak group to all book the same trip! I've gone 3 times, one of which was part of our honeymoon. They can go for week long trips, 4-days, and 3 day weekend trips.

Sounds fun! Wish I could join you guys, but can't make it on Saturday. Thanks for posting the trip though.
