Drought relief

Wow, no postings since 25 November.

Sunday, Tuck's Point, 10AM arrive, off the water before total darkness, recommend lights anyway, we may have a volunteer for rescue practice (test his new dry suit), this is dry suit time for me, the usual protocols apply.

Salem Sound provides many alternatives including the Gooseberries, etc. beyond the islands at the mouth of the harbour, the coast in either direction, those in attendance will choose from the menu.

This is the information that Bob gave me:

Pine St exit is north of Beverly on 128 before Gloucester. Left at the "T" intersection (Bridge, Bennett, Central) is the way to the police station and the old launch behind (did you ever go there). Right on Harbour St, etc. the launch as as the end of Tucks Point Rd.

Sorry, you have been misled. Tuck's Point it is, and also the Manchester Yacht Club. At the mouth of Manchester Harbour one sees Salem Sound stretching before you and to the right. So its one place to launch into Salem Sound. Tuck Point is another but is better for small trips as its on-street parking though you can drive on the beach even if you don't have AWD. Tuck's Point is not officially a public launch so we try to be good neighbours. At this time of year I don't expect an issue but we drop our boats and gear on the lawn and park cars under the trees on the grass away from the formal parking. This was recommended by a source who Judith Miller refuses to divulge the name of.

Marine forecasts are the only method I can think of to anticipate the wind levels which are one determinant of trip level.

Official trips are/have been called off the night before due to forecast conditions beyond the level of the trip. If winds or other conditions encountered on an official trip are in excess of the trip level the route will be altered (in favour of protected destinations) or the trip aborted altogether. In general, if one or more participants is having trouble with conditions their needs are addressed.
