Gloucester harbor put-ins

Does anyone know of put-ins in the harbor other than the High School or Pavilion Beach? Both will be used for the Blackburn and I need a spot to launch from for an SNG I will post later.

The only thing I can think of is off East Main St, just as you turn onto the road to Rocky Neck. There's a little public parking lot, with the put in across the street. Wonson Cove. It's a bit tide sensitive, and can be a bit of a portage at low, surely not something you want to be doing at the end of the day, though first thing wouldn't be so bad. Puts you in the harbor just a tad north of Niles Beach.

There really isn't anything else, while "in-season" with legal parking.

Thanks, Roger. Certanly this location is perfect, albeit it will be close to low tide at the time. I guess if it does not work we may be able to find someplace to park near the High School.

Fort Stage Park? That rocky beach that faces south, near the cafeteria/eating place...perhaps not in season, although I am sure I have launched there in summer in the past.

Then again, what about that put-in further up the Annisquam, beyond the hospital -- Corliss Landing?

You can launch from Stage Fort Park but there is a fee to park up there. I think its $10 or $15. We did it once and when we parked on the road to unload our boats and gear, the local police gave us a hard time about being parked there.

Corliss Landing is tide specific and I believe the tide is low at mid day on Saturday.

You may be able to launch on the other side of the boulevard - before the bridge. I've never done it and there are rocks and seaweed there. Also, if the tide is really high, the beach goes away at high tide. There are steps over there to bring you down to the water.

I’ve used the municipal parking lot next to the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, 33 Commercial St, on evenings and weekends. It is directly in front of the greasy pole. Parking there is reserved for municipal employees during the weekday work hours. Check with the city if you want to be sure.

The Chamber lot will be occupied with the Blackburn finish line tents.

The Rocky Neck location Roger mentioned works, but use the side by the parking lot. I have used it a number of times. Park in the free public lot immediately on the right as you turn from E. Main Street onto Rocky Neck. Carry boats down the riprap to launch at the head of Smith Cove. It is easiest at the end farthest from E. Main and not as hard as it sounds to get the boats down there - 2 people to a boat. Even at low tide there is only a bit of muck to deal with. Wear good shoes because of glass.
