Kevin B (RPS Coach)
Need advice from those of have made the trip before. As for getting through the back part of Gerrish, when is the best time relative to tide? Would it be something like -+ 2 hours around high tide or is there a little more flexibility?Where do put in around Kittery?
PeterB
2 hours might be pushing it, more like 1 hour on either side of high tide. There's a stretch of hundred yards or so of salt marsh, maybe 1/8 mile past the culvert (i.e. between the culvert and Brave Boat harbor) that runs out of water pretty quickly after high tide. This is also around where he currents meet, so the current through the culvert runs towards Brave Boat on the flood and towards Chauncey creek on the ebb. gyork
Kevin , I've done it many times, always clockwise at high tide. The meandering route will likely be un-navigable beyond +/- 1hour of high tide. There's a nice beach (Southpoint) south of Brave Boat Harbor that would be a nice lunch/snack/frisbee pit stop, perhaps to or from a destination of York Harbor, for instance.Gary
Kevin B (RPS Coach)
Thanks for the info. What about the Kittery put in? Couldn't find anything on our site.
ccarlson
Kevin.. and hour and a half either side is about the max and sometimes that is even pushing it a bit. Best put-in is the Kittery town wharf behind Frisbee's store on RT 103.
paulariegel
Hi Kevin - Believe the address for Frisbee's is 88 Pepperrell Rd, Kittery Point, ME. It's right in Pepperrell Cove. There's a sea-food resturant right there too. Capt'n Simeons (spelling probably off). Depending on size of group, you may not be able to all park there, but believe there's parking across street at a school parking lot. There's also a put in further up the river in the back channel, behind some school/academy. It's escaping me how to get there but if you want a longer paddle, that's an option. There's also Ordiorne Point on the NH side. Have fun! PaulaNDK Exp-LVVCP-Anas Acuta
