subaruguru
Welcome! The Upper Mystic Lake was almost unbearably warm (86F) a few weeks ago, but has settled nicely. Although it can suffer from runoff the day after a heavy rain it flushes quite rapidly at the south end where we paddle, and being up to 100' deep (!) is fairly clean.I'm pretty sure it'll be clean enough for rolling/rescues tomorrow.See ya there. bob budd
The water this summer was indeed warm at times. I swam the lake each day before climbing in my kayak and suffered not a single ear infection or other indication of water issues. As regards dress, as the day wanes the temperatures are beginning to drop.
djlewis
Just FYI, the DCR has not reported pollution alerts for Mystic since the weather retreated from the 90s a few weeks ago, despite a number of rainstorms. That's true today Monday, for example. I'll check again tomorrow before the session, but will be terribly surprised if it's amiss.BTW, Ernie's point about the nature of Mystic Lake is a good one. It's over 100 feet deep in the middle where we practice. Water quality is measured at Sandy Beach, with DCR taking samples from very near the shoreline, in inches of water. That probably exagerates the pollution level, though that's a good thing in a spot where kids will be playing.--David.
