Posted May 13, 200619 yr Essex river Race re-set to June 10 http://www.blackburnchallenge.com/Essex.html Now there's some time to prepare. Go out and paddle the course. At 5.5 miles its about 60 to 70 minutes for a sea kayak. The race is set for highest tide so there is no significant current. You can cut corners on the way out and around Cross Island counter clockwise. Stay right in deep water on the return leg. This is not a sea kayak trip, so you're boat can be empty, your pfd less cluttered to allow for paddling. Most people have a drink tube set up. map images found here http://community.webshots.com/user/nspnphotos Explore the river from the air here: http://local.live.com/?v=2&sp=aN.42.650799..._Essex%20River_ Essex River
