Conflict Over Whale Protection

The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center continues its Thursday night lecture series at 7 p.m. on December 1st with a slide/lecture by Tora Johnson, author of Entanglements : The Intertwined Fates of Whales & Fishermen. Johnson will explain, without laying blame, the issues that envelope the endangered North Atlantic right whale. She will examine the conflict between fishing communities and conservationists, as she explores the science and history that play inherent roles in the conflict.

Other presenters included in the GMHC lecture series are as follows: January 19th, Dick Russell, author of Striper Wars; and January 26th, Michael Tougias, author Ten Hours Until Dawn.

All lectures take place at 7 p.m. at the Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center, 23 Harbor Loop in Gloucester. Dessert and coffee follow the presentations. There is no charge, but donations are welcomed. For further information, call (978) 281-0470.
