I would like to get out on the water the 22nd. Please let me know if you would like to join me. The weather reports are looking good. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findwe...ast?query=01701 I am open to idea's for where to paddle. One idea I had is a circumnavigation of Cape Ann. Low tide is early 8:51am, that would suggest that we should be on the water by 7:30. With AM traffic that might not be the best day for the circumnavigation. -Jason

Coastal forecast is looking better to do this paddle on Sunday. Level 3 paddle around North Monomoy, South Beach (NOT a South Monomoy circum-nav). Leisurely trip to visit the seals, maybe play on the outside of South Monomoy, depending on conditions. This will be a joint trip with folks from RICKA. This is not an NSPN official trip. Contact me for particulars if you are interested: linda dot shelburne at verizon dot net.

Looks like anyone interested in keeping the Wednesday Night Surfing Sessions going is going to need to head south tomorrow. Some southerly swells from Ophelia will start hitting south of Cape and RI tomorrow, and will probably build into Friday. I'll be heading down to Westport to surf at Horseneck Beach with one of the locals down there tomorrow evening. I'll shoot for 3PM and plan to surf till dark. The lifeguards are gone and the parking is free, so we have the whole beach to ourselves.

It looks like there will be some surf tomorrow. Several of us short boat surfers will be there having some fun. I'm sure some will bring their long boats as well. I know some of us will be there as early as 3pm, and will stay till dark. So...come on down and have some fun. For those that may feel a little intimidated by the surf, Nahant is a very shallow beach with no rocks, and usually the waves roll in without dumping. It is probably one of the better places to get started in the surf. Helmets are strongly recommended! This is NOT an NSPN event. Every person is responsible for themselves.

The parade of lights starts near the High School, goes through Blynman canal, then around the inner harbor. Since the boulevard will be crowded and launching at the Greasy pole near impossible, here is my plan: Launch from the rip rap at Rocky Neck, 7:00 PM. There is a public parking lot on the right, when you turn off E. Main street to head out onto Rocky Neck. We will have to carry boats down over some granite. Low tide is at 5:51PM, which means there will be a small gravel beach to launch from, at the far end of the parking lot (farthest from E. Main Street). Bring the usual gear, good footwear, LOTS of lights, warm clothing, food or $ to buy food. Off the water …

Pierre (Spiritfriend) suggested the following on this trip's previous tread. <<"Pavilion Beach along the outside of Cranes, accross the Essex, to the Anisquam. There is a beach where there is a good lunch spot. Then back to the inside of Cranes to Fox Creek (I've done the creek one hour either side of low tide), and back to Pavillion. (approx 14 mi). Esturary is nice this time of year. I'm game for anything else as well. Pierre">> Jamie Doucett also suggested launching at Pavillion. I have launched there but never gone this direction. Let's do it! The Castle Neck portion sounds great (SEE Sea Kayaking Coastal Massachusetts Trip 3). The only question …

There is plenty of interest and a good weather report for a level 3 S&G this Saturday on the North Shore. Low Tide = 5:45 AM, High Tide = noon. Marblehead, Salem Sound, with lunch at Misery will work with a launch at 10 AM. I did that route again last weekend and continue to enjoy it, but would also enjoy something different. Have done Lane's Cove to Rockport and associated islands (not that exciting to me) and Lane's Cove up the Annisquam...fun, lots of boat traffic. Have not done Lane's Cover and go past the Annisquam to explore further towards the NW - anyone know that area? Portsmouth? Anywhere! So. What is your pleasure? Let's assume we have a trip…

It looks like Tom Hennes and I are going to do Monomoy this Friday (checking with him about possibly 9/3 - Saturday). Plan A is to do a clockwise circumnavigation, leaving at 7 AM. High tide is 12:40, beginning of ebb current at Pollack Rip is 9:40. This should put us at the southern tip just as the ebb tide is running. We'll paddle south and check out the sea conditions at the end of S. Nauset beach, if the ocean looks too bouncy, we'll go through the gap between N. and S. Monomoy and play on the west side. Since high tide is at 12:40, it'll make the flats bearable. Reminder: the full circumnavigation is 20 nm. Right now, the forecast is reasonable (5-10 kt wind…

SEE UPDATE ABOVE ---------------- Trying to judge interest in moderate level 3 S&G on either Thursday 9/1 or Saturday 9/3. Let's get a group together somewhere and not miss the end of the summer paddling. Please post which dates will work for you and any location that you would enjoy (I keep doing the same trips). Come on everyone, let get on the water together! Al Eddyline Nighthawk Red/White most of the time.

I missed the amazing Monomoy circumnavigation. I will, however, be at the Cape on and off until Labor Day. If anyone is interested in a venture, please contact me or post a response. I know most of the area from Swan River to Stage Harbor, and the Herring River, which are pretty mild. I'd be interested in trying some of Monomoy - anything from the north island to trying something more ambitious like the south island, if there is a minimum of 3 people. best, John Huth

Dan Starer is one of my paddling buddies in NY who was in Cape Cod a couple of weeks ago and used this site to link up with a couple of trips. I'm heading to Chatham this week and would love to do the same if it works out. Will be bringing my Epic 18 and gear with me; I'm a one-year and change paddler who's fairly fanatical and has grown accustomed to 30-50 mile trips this summer; little open ocean experience but lots on the harbor here and waterways which can become, well, interesting with wind, wakes, currents, etc. If anyone is interested in linking up, I'll be checking this site and can also be reached on my mobile at 917-257-5716. Thanks- Tom

My wife and I are planning a week long trip to Mount Desert Island/Acadia National Park and I would like to invite the members of NSPN to join us. We camped there last summer and the camping and paddling were excellent. The trip this year will from the 15th to the 22nd of july and we will be camping once again at Mount Desert Campground, site E16. It is a beautiful area with a wide variety of paddling venues just waiting to be explored. The campground, Mount Desert Campground, is on Somes sound, and everyone will have to make their reservations themselves. It is a very nice quiet campground, and even in the evening around the campfire we were never disturbed by neighb…

The thunderstorm threat seems to have receded until the late afternoon. In any case, we can stick close to shore, and in fact, to bailout roads, especially later in the paddle. Check the radar before you leave. BTW, if you expect to play in rocks, current or waves, I recommend you wear a helmet. ------------------------------------------------------ Minot Light, rock gardening, play in Little Harbor rip, picnic on Leslie's Rock, tour up or down the South Shore coast. We'll decide when we gather, but the Little Harbor ebb rip starting around 1:30-1:45 definitely beckons. Launch time 10:00 AM. As usual with private trips, there is no leader, just organizers, and everyb…

Hi - I'm currently in grad school, so my days are pretty open. Anyone else out there interested in weekday practice/paddles? I'd say I'm a low level 3 paddler, but after a roof rack incident this spring, I haven't been on the water all season. Got the rack fixed, so I'm mobile now and willing to travel to the north or south shore. I also live about 2 miles from Mystic lakes, and would travel to put-in on other lakes/rivers. Jason
