Adding Pictures To Postings

Whether it be a trip report, a how-to repair, a boat for sale, or any number of things, photographs inserted into a posting can greatly enhance what you have to say. The process can be a little challenging, so hopefully this will help those attempting to insert photos into their posts.

When replying to an existing thread, there is a black button below the bottom right of the text window that has the word "Post" that I think everyone understands will submit your post to the thread you are responding to. Next to that button, there is light blue(?) colored button that says "More Reply Options". If you click on that button, you will see that the screen changes slightly and there will now be the words "Attach Files" below the bottom left of the text window with a button that says "Choose Files..." and a paper clip next to it. If you are creating a new post (not responding to an existing thread), this button will already be there.

When you click the "Choose Files..." button, it will bring up a window for you to search your computer for the photo file you want to include with the post. Use this window to search your computer to find the photo you want to include in your post. Click on the "Open File" button in the bottom right of the search window (or simply double click on the file) and you will notice the a thumbnail of the picture and the file name will show up below the text window and above the "Attach Files" section. You can add multiple photos and each one will be listed in this area.

Here is where the process can get confusing. You can select photos at any time during the creation of your post, however, they have not been added to your post yet. To the right of each photo thumbnail and file name are the words "Add to Post" and "Delete". To actually add the photo to the posting - and this is the most important part - you need to have the curser (the blinking vertical line where text appears when you type) where you want the photo to be inserted. Once you have the curser where you want the photo, go ahead and click "Add to Post" and the NAME of your file will show up in the post. The actual photo will not show up in your text window, but only the name of the file associated with the photo.

Again, this process can be done at any time, whether you do it before, during, or after you have written the post, but it must be done before you submit the post. Now, for the last bit of fun! Before you submit your post, there is a button next to the black "Add Reply" or "Post New Topic" buttons that says "Preview Post". This will show you what your post will look like when it is finally submitted to the forum, and allows you to make changes. Your can scroll down to the text window to continue to edit your post.

One final note: Any photo that you select (listed below the text window) but do not actually attach into the post will still show up at the end of your posting. If you do not use a photo and don't want it to show up, just hit the "Delete" text at the far right next to the "Add to Post" text. However, do NOT hit the "Delete" text for any photo that you are actually using in the post.

I hope this helps. Happy posting!
