Gary;

Count me in. I will likely stay over on Orr's Island on Thursday and launch from near the Cribstone Bridge and meet up with the rest of the fleet somewhere along the way to Jewell--probably Crow or Bangs if that's where you all stop on your way out. Anyone else who is inclined to launch from Orr's is welcome to join me (Peter??). I could change and simply launch with everyone else, depending on how things shake out. Will keep in touch.

I checked with the Dave Mention about Bangs Island being closed at nesting season and it appears to be open, here's his reply:

"No eagles on Bangs, I don't know that there ever was an eagle there. It used to have nesting eiders but they've been gone for some time.

If you do a clean up (and find alot) leave filled trash bags WELL UP on the shore out of the way and let us know. We'll be out with the Lund and can take it off.

Have fun, and thanks!

Dave"

I realize that time and conditions will dictate whether you guys can visit these islands, I just wanted to let you know that the option is there. I wish I could go, but I have to work...

REFRESHING! (pun intended)

Here's a great opportunity to enjoy a leisurely paddle and camping trip, coupled with stewardship of NSPN's newly-adopted sister islands Bangs and Crow. For those of you with intermediate paddling skills, this would be a great first-time kayak camping trip (privies provided).

Gary,

Janaki and I would be very interested in coming with you. We had some great trips when we were living in Newfoundland and are looking forward to checking out Maine.

mary -

what an awesome adventure!

story about sleeping in bear country....i think they're scary as hell...can't take em, can't outrun em...big teeth....yikes, right? so anyways, every night before laying down in my tent i'd make sure the food was in the canister and away from my tent and that i didn't have any food or particularly food smelling items in the tent and then i'd take a stick and draw a circle around my tent. my friends asked me what i was doing and i explained that the circle was there to protect and warn me....if there was ANYTHING inside that circle but me, i was assuming it was a bear and then having the appropriate reaction (utter terror or something akin was my plan) and that they, my campmates, should never, never be inside the circle because my reaction was going to be visceral and quite possibly blind with fear and that by the time i'd realized that i'd pee'd myself and more than likely killed them, that it was going to be too late to apologize.

i have no evidence that it didn't work.

have an amazing time.
