BC_Deck
I just got a used Explorer at a charity auction, and, while it is in very good shape, it did not come with a back band. It does have the two pad eyes in the bulkhead behind the seat for attaching a band. I am 6’0” tall; could anyone recommend a back band? Jim Snyder
Welcome to the club and congratulations on rehoming the Explorer. They're great boats. A lot of us with NDK boats have abandoned backbands in favor of a foam block glued to the bulkhead. It can be shaped for comfort.
rfolster
If the foam back isn’t an option, you could check with Maine Island Kayak Co. on Peaks Island or Kayak Waveology in CT since they are the primary local dealers for NDK / SKUK boats. mhabich
Putting these two thoughts together, Tom Bergh at MIKCO is a real believer in custom foam outfitting on NDK boats: https://maineislandkayak.com/boat-store/custom-fitting/ He must have bunches of backbands he's replaced with foam. gyork
You can custom this setup until the cows come home-on the cheap and double-duty! Paddle float if you don't recognize.
JanetL
NSPN member Steph recently put an Immersion Research "Reggie" backband in her plastic Romany surf - not that hard to do and seems to work well for her.
