Camping along the Maine Coast in June w/ Toxic Caterpillars

Hi

Does anyone have any insight on this topic?  My annual MITA kayak camping trip is being sabotaged by the worst outbreak on record of the Browntail Moth Caterpillars.  Their airborne toxic hairs cause skin rash when they come in contact with skin or respiratory distress if breathed in.  The ranger on Warren Island has already reported campers with rashes.

Thanks

Betty

I knew one who got into it pretty bad and had to go get Benadryl and cut an island trip short. That was 20 years ago and I have never heard of anyone having a problem since except for one friend who was clearing brush in Harpswell.

It would not stop me from a trip but knowing more might help.  What is disturbing the underbrush?
