Jim Snyder
Due to discouraging weather forecasts we were down two three paddlers by launch time out of Odiorne: Me, Bill Harter, and Sue Henry Morin. The forecast had improved some by launch time and we decided to head out of little harbor along the east coast of New Castle and consult weather radar before considering a crossing. As it turned out, the predicted chance of thunderstorms kept getting pushed back further in the day and were never a concern. We crossed to Wood Island and continued on to Whaleback Light. We considered a landing there but at the tide level it was uninviting. We pushed on to White Island where I had hopes of some light rock play but there wasn't much going on. We landed and explored some before heading over to Wood for lunch. There's a lot of new construction on Wood with a new sea wall on the west face. We met an instructor from UNH there who was working on a project with students on New Castle, studying how light waves are effected by environmental conditions. From Wood we crossed back over to New Castle and back to Little harbor where we stopped for a little rescue practice before returning to the ramp. We were all glad we braved the forecast and had a great day in balmy breezes and mild seas. Thanks to Bill for his great photos!
